Using good descriptions in writing to interest the reader.

Use an action first then fill it up with loads of descriptions before moving onto the next thing that happens.

Student work

We learnt te reo this morning. Most of the class were flicking their hands in the air and bursting with answers for the questions while others were fiddling at the back of everyone and biting their nails with bulging eyes that scanned the room for any sign of useful information they could find. We moved on to feeling objects and learning how to elaborate our sentences with more information about the object in te reo. I felt the hard apple and discovered that I could incorporate about it being red and also yellow in my sentence. I found that the apple was larger than the other apples so I could also add that too. I heard muttering and complaining from behind me about more extension.

WALT: Use descriptions to make writing interesting

I fell off my bike and the concrete smelt like wet dog. I looked at my clothes and they ended up getting wet from the grass edge. When I tried to pull my bike up, my hand got hot on the handle of the bike so I dropped it on my foot! I heard my mum calling out to me. She asked me if I was alright. I could taste the grass. There were bits in my mouth. I heard the chain still spinning then I felt the coldness of my clothes. I looked at my bike and said “You dumb bike!” Mud was stuck in my teeth. I smelt the oil on my chain. It smelt disgusting.

It was library time. The smell of books flew up my nostrils. The room was filled with silence. Books surrounded me as I tried to choose one. Crispy pages crunched as I flicked through. From behind a giant pile of books, an ice cold breeze swooped down onto me giving me goosebumps all over. I hugged my book in the dark corner as it started to pour with rain. There was nowhere else to go.

Welcome

Welcome to 2020!
We have year 4, 5 and 6 in our class this year. We have started our year with an art exhibition made of our design challenges each day. This has been with the help of Akau which is a community group of architects, artists and designers who are looking at beautifying Kaikohe.
We have also done some fundraising to raise money for nude lunchboxes for everyone to help our zero waste goal for this year.
Our MANA values underpins all our learning and we practice a growth mindset to help ourselves and others achieve the success they are after.

See our videos below and send us a comment. 😄

Cup cake stall

We had a cup cake stall to raise money for nude lunch boxes for everyone in our class. Thank you everyone for your support. Elliot's family joined in so we will get him one too!

Link to video of our stall. (Leave us a message in our comments: What did you like best?)

Room 11 started 2020 with design challenges. Each day we learnt about different art and design concepts and applied our own personal stories to this learning.
