Yesterday we had a guest in room 11. Miss Nicola's mum brought some harakeke to make putiputi. Her name is Blodwyn which is welsh. It means putiputi ma. Leila made a lovely bouquet of roses. Petra was doing lots of weaving in hers. Blodwyn loved working with the children she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

Learning how to give directions takes patience and good vocab.  Things we had to learn were our right from our left and degrees to turn.
This was fun and the teachers should do it too. Drift wants to do it more often and Archie wants to do it at speed on the back field. No.

We are making te reo sentences. It is really fun.  We have to think about the sentence structure and the words and where they go. We also need to think about what to fit in to make it more informative. Leila is helping with the descriptions. Petra is good at looking up and researching new words. She corrects them if they are wrong. Skylah is keep us all on task and we are taking turns writing it up.

We were learning about the four parts of hauora and what they mean.
We had to think really hard about it and understand it properly to come up with our designs. We used blending and light and dark to create impact in our artwork.

I really enjoyed doing this work. It got my mind into the creative and I had a lot of fun designing with meaning. Aurora

Room 11 are learning ways to memorise te reo. This is copying actions for the words. Some prefer picture writing and others prefer acting out the sentence.

Room 11 and Room 3 gave a presentation today to the lovely people from Island Birdsong. They gave the children certificates and invited our classes back again in 2 years! We are so looking forward to returning.

Room 11 are learning how tides work. Reading the instructions is a challenge and because we have no cork they have to come up with innovative alternatives. There is much complaining!

Drift was in charge of making the rat traps on the Island.  Skylah says she enjoyed decorating the sides with art. Nivanna found she had to use teamwork and argued the whole time with Drift. Taungarangi enjoyed using the screwdriver. People let each other have a turn which was good aroha!

Graham describes his experience of planting trees as extreme. He struggled putting his gloves on! William tells us that we need to learn how to make sure the hole is big enough for the plant to fit in and to pull the grass away to do this. Taungarangi found it fun and learnt how to use the GPS!
